Derek Anderson is a free agent

Browns QB Derek Anderson is now officially a free agent.

The team was unable to get Anderson to sign a three year, $20 million deal ($10 million guaranteed), so instead they tendered him a one-year contract offer for $2.5 million. He refused the one-year tender and will now hit the market as a restricted free agent. Savage had said that once Anderson tested the waters of free-agency, that was pretty much the end of it. So now I guess it's time for Browns fans to brace for the start of the Brady Quinn era, eh?

Re: Derek Anderson is a free agent

I think Brady will end up being a lot better than Derek Anderson. I beleive that Derek has reached his peak and will not get much better. If the Browns can get a 1st and 3rd round pick for him, more power to the Browns.

Wow, I am a big Brady fan, but I do not know what to think...one year at 2.5 mil is like telling him go away...and 3 for $20 is okay, but not all that great when compare to some others in the league...I mean, they must of made a commitment to Brady already.

It's like the San Diego situation with Brees and Rivers. Eventually, you've got to turn it over to the first-round pick. It would've been nice to have Anderson for a few more years while Quinn develops, but I guess that's just not going to happen. They certainly could do worse than getting the first and third for him, that's for sure.

Now, would that be for this year's draft, or 2009? I mean, can Cleveland get back the pick they spent on Quinn? And if the Dolphins were to sign Anderson, does that give the Brownies the #1 overall pick? Just curious.

Well, the one-year deal was a requirement to get the draft picks if he signs elsewhere. It was never a serious offer. 3-for-$20 million... I dunno, to me, that doesn't sound to bad for a guy who's had one good year in his career. I think if Anderson's looking for, say, Tony Romo money, he's going to be sorely disappointed.

Still low, look at what that foolish Bear receiver got offered by comparision and you'll see its low.

I think he's reached his peak too. I think he has dreams of being the next Tony Romo and its just not gonna happen!

From what I understand, both picks would be applied to this years draft. This would put us back into the first round mix. It will probably be a very high draft pick because the teams that need a QB are bad. Miami, KC, Minnesota, Baltimore, etc...

2.5 for one year is like a slap in the face. Did they really think he would say yes?

Well they upped it to $24 mil for 3 with a $13.5 mil bonus...which is a good deal.
