Post Brady Quinn holdout

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn missed his fourth day of training camp Monday in a contract holdout that shows no signs of ending anytime soon for the first-round draft pick.

Quinn, who figures to compete for the starting job with Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, has missed six practices so far.

Browns general manager Phil Savage has been in negotiations with Quinn's agent, Tom Condon, but the team said there was nothing new to report.

"I'm glad we've got the other guys out there," Savage said. "If anything, it's given Charlie and Derek the chance to get more reps, and that's a positive."

Savage characterized talks with Condon as "in the same neighborhood, but not on the same street."

Well, at least from Savage's comments, it sounds as though the two sides are getting closer. Quinn is going to be so far behind...

Doesn't matter...it's a free market economy, you are worth only what someone is willing to pay you...not a penny more...but not a penny less...The Browns know they were lucky he fell to 22nd...Quinn knows it too...nobody in their right mind would offer him money based on that...

Same goes when a guy goes much higher than projected...

Quinn will get money in the 3-9 pick range...if he doesn't he is an idiot.

Are you serious? What's his argument, that he should've been a top 10 pick? He wasn't and he gets to get over it. The only thing he deserves is to be paid like the 22nd overall pick, and maybe get some good-performance based bonuses in there. You say that if Quinn doesn't get money in the 3-9 range, he's an idiot. I venture that if the Browns pony up that kind of dough, and if they pay him equal to or more than Thomas, then they're the ones who are idiots.

Re: Brady Quinn holdout

For the Browns' sake, I hope this guy is as good as he thinks he is.
He's the one that was charging for autographs if I remember correctly.

A rookie, at the quarterback position, he ought to be in camp. Sometimes it seems like they struggle all year if they dont get in at the ground floor.

Yep, he was the one charging for his John Hancock, and no, I don't think there's any possible way he's as good as he thinks he is. Let's keep in mind that Quinn is far from the perfect quarterback. He made some bad throws and some worse decisions at Notre Dame. He may be pretty good, but he's buying into his own hype too much and it's going to cost him.

Re: Brady Quinn holdout

The AP is reporting that the two sides are close on guaranteed money, but are at odds on escalator clauses, or addendums to the contract that would reward Quinn for playing time. According to the AP, "Condon's proposal would allow Quinn to get a $5 million increase in the final two years of a potential five-year deal if he takes 55 percent of the snaps in any two of the first three years or 70 percent in any one of the first three... The Browns would prefer if the triggers were tougher to reach."
