Browns rookie QB says he has to make sure contract is 'fair'

Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn said Monday from Arizona he feels he's doing the right thing by waiting for the right deal, even though it's difficult. "I'd love to be there competing for the starting job," said Quinn, who has missed the first four days of camp. "But it's a long contract, and I have to make sure it's fair in the event I become the starter." Quinn said he trusts his agent, Tom Condon. ... "Tom has a first-round quarterback every year, and he's accustomed to dealing with this," said Quinn, who tumbled to No. 22 on draft day. "That's why I chose him. He's been in tough situations." Quinn said rumors that he's not on the same page as Condon are completely false. A Browns insider said he felt the deal would be done if not for Condon. "I have total faith in what Tom's doing," said Quinn. "I'm letting him do his job. He understands I'm in a competitive situation." Quinn said he has no idea when he will sign because "they've slowed down on some of the progress they were making." -- Cleveland Plain Dealer

Of course he would've signed if not for his agent. These guys, most of them anyway, would probably take a first offer to go out there and play football. That's why they hire these agents. Now are contract demands getting out of hand? Absolutely. But Condon's just doing the job Quinn hired him to do.

Brady Quinn is my guy as you know i think he will win rings as pro starting QB. But a fair contract for the number 22 pick is number 22 money it is as simple as that.

No way, no how...a potential franchise QB falling to 22 is worth a lot more than say Ginn Jr. who is limited in value going at 9...

And you get what you can negotiate...

Look at say Culter or Leinhart...after a fine rookie season shouldn'tthey have been worth top 5 money?...or Vince Young at 3...should he not be worth a heck of a lot more than what Williams got a #1 overall?

The word is potential put incentives in the deal that's says he gets a raise if he becomes a starter in year 3 or 4 but as of right now he is the number 22 pick he will a great QB but he is the number 22 pick and he has to live with

Nope. You're worth what your picked. Simple as that.

At least, that's my opinion.

Considering Mario Williams got six years, $54 million and Vince Young got five years, $58 million, I can tell NFL GMs disagree.

So apparently the first QB taken, no matter where it is, will be the highest paid player in any given draft. That doesn't jive well with me.

Why?...He might be the "best" player in the draft...but what if the teams picking ahead have a Manning or a Brady?...It would be dumb for them to take "the best player in the draft" and not what they need. It is not smart to pay soley based on position taken.

Its not the fact that the QB should be drafted first; rather, if he isn't drafted first, why does he still deserve to be the highest paid? I thought we were over the whole "Quarterback is the most important position on the field" after the Ravens won the Super Bowl with Dilfer and the Steelers did so with a woeful performance by Big Ben.

So he should get more money than Joe Thomas because he will be franchise QB someday

I think given the teams needs and the places they were picked on that team...probably about even money.
