Quinn In Favor Of High School Steroid Testing

Public opinion seems mixed on the new state law that will bring steroid testing into the high schools, but Gov. Charlie Crist and the Florida High School Athletic Association has one big proponent - Browns quarterback Brady Quinn.
Quinn, spending a few days in Palm Beach Gardens for the NFL’s rookie symposium, said that athletes in his hometown of Dublin, Ohio were all tested once during the year for steroids, and subjected to random steroid testing.
In Florida, one percent of all football and baseball players, as well as weightlifters, will receive random steroid testing in the 2007-08 school year.
“We had that in high school as well and I think it was good,” Quinn said. “Sometimes you notice there are some kids who stand out, and maybe for one reason or another. I think if you’re going to see it in college, and you’re going to see it in the professional levels, you should see it in high schools as well.”

Re: Quinn In Favor Of High School Steroid Testing

I'm in favor of it, too. When I was in high school, there were a lot of guys that everyone knew were on roids. Worst part is they were using cattle steroids since that's all they could get their hands on. I know there's an invasion of privacy issue here, but I see it like this. To play football, you already are required to undergo a physical. What's the harm in adding a steroid test to it?

Re: Quinn In Favor Of High School Steroid Testing

I don't understand how it is an invasion of privacy to have to take a drug test to play a sport. i had to take one to get the job I have now. It is not like they are randomly going to houses and demanding tests. There are just some places it has to be done. High school athletics should be required. Stop them before it gets to be a big problem.

See, nothing to worry about then. No diff than getting a physical. And now arent they doing those pictures in school like they are in the NFL? The ones they do to see if the brain activity is any different after a concussion?
