Post Browns QB controversy

BEREA, Ohio -- Ask Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson and rookie Brady Quinn about their mind-sets, and each believes he is the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

Yesterday, Frye, the incumbent, added his two cents in his first public statement since the Browns drafted Quinn in the first round.

"I really can't predict the future, but I'm preparing like I'm the starter," he said. "I never knew I lost ( the job). That's the way I'm preparing. You talk about getting it back, but I kind of figured they were going to bring somebody in, either a rookie or a veteran guy."

Frye and Quinn struggled yesterday in their first workout together. Quinn threw three interceptions in drills and Frye two, including one that safety Sean Jones returned for a touchdown. The defense was dominant in the first day of voluntary team workouts.

Now that Quinn has joined the others on the field, it will be interesting to see how things develop.

Will they push each other? Will they all improve? Will they develop a healthy rivalry, or a harmful one that divides the team?

Re: Browns QB controversy

I'm pretty sure Anderson doesn't have a shot. Basically I think it's Quinn's job if he can win it, but I don't think he will. Not right off the bat, anyway.

Re: Browns QB controversy

If they are going to give it to him this year, just give it to him from the start. Why would they want to start losing before they try him?

Protecting him while he learns the offense and they solidify the offensive line. That's what I'd do, anyway.

Lefty's right. You don't want to get the guy killed.

Re: Browns QB controversy

Didn't they jsut get a few free agent linemen this offseason. I think they got Steinbeck too. Their line may not be all that bad if Fraley can improve at center.

Post Browns' QB drama heating up

BEREA — Everyone, it seems, has an opinion on who should start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski, the long-ago Philadelphia Eagles QB, this week said he thinks rookie first-round draft choice Brady Quinn would be the wise choice because the Browns have "nothing else."

"Well, if Ron has a team, he can put him on that team," Browns coach Romeo Crennel said bemusedly after Wednesday morning's minicamp practice. "And you can tell Ron I said that."

Re: Browns' QB drama heating up

Like some have mentioned before in this thread i'd start Quinn at mid-season because although they addressed the O-Line in the offseason they need time to gel. Let Frye be the tackling dummy till around game 7 then allow Quinn to start and let the future begin.
