Browns sign RB Jamal Lewis

Tremendous signing for the Cleveland Browns, as they snag free agent RB Jamal Lewis, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens. The Browns signed Lewis to a one-year deal, and should instantly be able to improve the league's worst rushing offense of a year ago. I'm stunned, but it's a great signing.

His unique combination of power and size is tremendous.Having a bone spur recently removed from his foot should help Lewis with his running.

Cool Re: Browns sign RB Jamal Lewis

I don't like it. If you take the name Jamaal Lewis off the back of his jersey and this was a running back who averaged 3.4, and 3.6 yards a carry in the last 2 years, would you want him?

I don't think so. And the Browns O-line is worse than the Ravens.

SIGH! I keep telling people that Jamal Lewis has nothing left and never was the same after that knee injury but does anyone listen? NOOOOOOOOO!!! If he couldn't run behind the Ravens line I can only imagine what he's gonna be like behind the Browns line. Bad move.

Nah... I mean, Lewis, like him or not, is an upgrade from what they have now at the position. And Cleveland needs to try something -- anything -- to improve that worst-in-the-NFL running game. Of course, now that they have Lewis... can they do something about that offensive line, puh-leeze?

Lewis is an upgrade...and nothing says a team can't go back to a mind set of 3 to 4 good backs...worked for the Dolphins with Csonka, Kick, Morris...

Lewis Confident in Browns Running Attack
The Casper Star Tribune, WY - 2 hours ago
CLEVELAND - Jamal Lewis isn't promising 2,000 yards, but thinks he can be the same bruising running back who tormented the Cleveland Browns for years. "They know what I can do. Hopefully, we can do it to other teams now," Lewis said in a teleconference Thursday.

Lewis signed a one-year deal Wednesday with Cleveland that could be worth as much as $3.5 million, a move that takes him from first to worst in the AFC North.

The 27-year-old has seen his numbers decline since he was the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2003. He believes though that can help the Browns get to where the Baltimore Ravens are.

"I've got a lot left in the tank when I have something to work with, and I feel Cleveland is going to give me that opportunity to do what I do," Lewis said.

Lewis signed with the Browns without visiting another team. Lewis was convinced by Cleveland's acquisition of free agent guard Eric Steinbach and other improvements he expects on the offensive line.

I just don't think it's much of an upgrade. Again, if this runner's name was John Smith, and averaged 3.5 yards a carry the last 2 years, you might say this was an awful trade.

This is going to be like Edgerrin James going to the Cardinals. A running back on the downside of his career going to a team with a bad offensive line.

But his name is not John Smith...he came into the league in 2000 and missed one whole year with injuries...so he has not carried the ball as to say he is on the downside of a career.

Re: Browns sign RB Jamal Lewis

I agree the injury brought his numbers down and hes not producing 2000+ yds like in 2003 but c'mn he still ran for 1,132 yds.. Droughns ran for 758 yds so I would say yes this is an upgrade for cleveland..
