| Marty Schottenheimer to coach Browns? Will Marty Schottenheimer wind up as the coach of the Cleveland Browns? Not according to the Canton Repository. According to the paper's report, "The Cleveland Browns will not be pursuing their former coach, Marty Schottenheimer... Romeo Crennel is on thin ice after a 4-12 year. However, the brass decided in January to let Crennel spend 2007 either ratifying his regime or serving as a bridge to the next coach." Good move? I personally wouldn't mind seeing Marty back in Cleveland.

| Re: Marty Schottenheimer to coach Browns? I didn't want to mention the QB position because Frye went to my college. I was a fan of his. I am hoping he can get it right next year. Bentley should return and they have to improve the rest of the line. |

The guy would'nt have survived after cleveland if he would'nt have conspired with "Carl The Hustler Peterson" to strong arm the fans in Kansas City. I'm willing to bet anything that there was'nt one coach that was playing a "Chokenheimer" coached team that had'nt before hand chalked it up as a win. Marty is a product of system that takes care of there on members. Anyone with eyes that work could see that a Marty coached team would'nt have lead the league in no catorgory. It's plain as day that he was hideing behind his cordinators and the G.M shine the light on his Con Game he's been running since he left cleveland. But for the Marty lovers i have a solution for Marty the only way he can regain his respect among fans and peers will be to go to the colledge ranks and prepare future stars for life in the NFL. There would be no equal to his influence on a young man on how to conduct his self when reaching that next level. |

| Re: Marty Schottenheimer to coach Browns? No offense, fred, but if Marty's just an average coach then he's the luckiest son of a gun on the Earth, because he's earned 200 career wins, never had a losing record anywhere he's gone, and reached the playoffs 13 times in 21 years with three different teams. He's won Coach of the Year awards in three different years, and many different NFL head coaches worked under Marty, including Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy and Herm Edwards. He's also taken two different teams to the AFC Championship on three occasions, and should have taken taken San Diego there last year as well. He's not an average coach, he's a very good coach. |

| Just let Crennell have one more year and see what he can do. Schottenheimer is a good regular season coach. His teams always are competitive...but in the playoffs, I'd think I'd rather have Herm Edwards |

| Re: Marty Schottenheimer to coach Browns? I was willing to give him next year to prove/disprove the notion that he can be a head coach in the NFL. But, he has to show significant progress as a coach and the Browns have to do the same as a team. He needs to show at least some enthusiasm and better management skills. I don't want to give a specific record, but I would think that it must be clearly visible to see the team make substantial strides. I am still praying that Mike Singletary does not get hired by the Chargers. |

| Re: Cleveland Browns Should Hire Marty Schottenheimer -- Now Interesting theory -- hire Marty now and save having to outbid other teams for his services. Only problem is, a lot of people aren't willing to give up on Romeo Crennel, and there's definitely a possibility with the talent returning from injury and the high draft pick they have, that Cleveland could turn this thing around in 2007. |

| Re: Marty Schottenheimer to coach Browns? Believe me, Browns fans are well-aware of Marty's playoff failures from his first stint with the team. The Drive happened because Marty switched to a prevent defense early, which gave Elway everything underneath. I am behind Crennel for 2007, at least. Hiring Marty right now would be highly unethical in my opinion, because we already gave Crennel the vote of confidence that he'd be here next year. To withdraw that display of support because a hotter name entered the market would show a severe lack of class and hinder the chances that another coach jumps into the fiasco after Marty. Not to mention, Schottenheimer wouldn't have a coaching staff that he has experience with, save Chudzinski. Personally, I wouldn't bring Marty in with the expectation of deep postseason runs, but with the idea that he can leave the Browns better than he found them. If I recall correctly, Marty inherited a Charger team that finished 1-15 and 5-11 the previous two seasons. In his first year with the team, they went 8-8 and have since had records of 12-4, 9-7, and 14-2. With the Chiefs, the team was like 8-23-1 over the two previous seasons, and they finished 8-7-1 their first year under him. His track record of turning things around even extends back to the Browns, as he took over in the middle of a 5-11 season, but his next three years were 8-8, 10-6, and 12-4. Quite frankly, with his age, Marty is no more than a bridge to the next coach, so this role suits him well. Now, the the issue with coexisting with general manager Phil Savage. I am not aware how much the issue was publicized outside the Cleveland media, but Savage wields the majority of power with the Browns. He, not Romeo, had the final decision on all coaching staff affairs. He, not Romeo, has the final say with all personnel decisions. Coming from a messy divorce in San Diego due in large part to A.J. Smith, one would have to wonder how willing he would be to jump into a similar situation. |
