Robiskie Among 4 Coaches Browns Let Go
Friday, January 5, 2007

Wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie and tight ends coach Ben Coates won't be back with the Cleveland Browns next season, the first departures in an overhaul of coach Romeo Crennel's staff.

The team announced Friday that those two as well as offensive quality control coach Carl Crennel II and strength and conditioning coach John Lott will not be retained for next season.

More coaching changes could occur as Crennel continues meeting with general manager Phil Savage and owner Randy Lerner following a 4-12 season that began with high expectations.

Re: Browns coaching changes

So it looks like Romeo is safe, for one year anyway, but there's going to be wholesale changes on his staff, including WR coach Robiskie (formerly the team's interim coach after Butch Davis got fired) and TEs coach Ben "Winter" Coates. And I'm guessing Carl Crennel is a relation, son maybe? That could make family gatherings difficult.

So who will the Browns took to for replacements?

I'm suprised that Ben Coates got canned. The tight ends were playing very well all year. I knew Coates wasn't untouchable, but I figured other coaches would get the axe before it fell on him.

Terry Robiskie deserved to be fired last year. We have pretty good talent at wide receiver, but they never play up to their ability. He is the reason for a lot of the Browns drops, I think.

I believe Carl Crennel II is the son of Romeo, but he was pretty insignificant. Prime example of nepotism gone wild.

John Lott, the strength and conditioning coach, was shown the door as well. I don't know if you can blame the injuries solely on him, but he wasn't anything special anyway.

All of these guys are pretty replaceable. I venture to guess that positional voids will be filled once they find the offensive coordinator they want.

Re: Browns coaching changes

Coates was the shocker of the group.

I don't get the whole Terry Robiskie situation. His kid catches anything near him. His players seem to repel the ball. Amazing.

Carl was pretty much Romeo's coffee wench. Couldn't get the creamer right, so coach's nephew (his dad is Romeo's brother) or not, you're packing...

John Lott came in very highly-regarded by the organization. He was supposed to be one of the best available, but the injury list just kept growing and growing. Like Notorious said, I don't know how much can really be blamed on one guy, though.

We'll have to see who they bring in to replace them...

Re: Browns coaching changes

So does anyone know if Coates or Robiskie signed on anywhere else?
