Browns to start QB Dorsey in finale
NFL News
BEREA, Ohio (Dec. 26, 2006) -- Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel is down to his third quarterback and another round of discipline for his top wide receiver.

Mercifully, there's only one game left for the Browns, and as usual there's nothing more than draft position on the line.

Coming off a 22-7 home loss to lowly Tampa Bay on Christmas Eve, Crennel was succinct in addressing his team's poor performance.

"We didn't play very well on Sunday in any particular phase," he said.

Third-string quarterback Ken Dorsey will start Dec. 31 at Houston with Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye sidelined. Anderson was placed on injured reserve with a separated shoulder.

Re: QB Ken Dorsey to start vs. Texans

Well, this is typical of Cleveland's season. Injuries, injuries and more injuries. Dorsey's a pretty good QB, though. Hopefully he plays well and the Browns can finish the season on a high note. Next year this team might really be something. If they can stay healthy, that is. The way things are going, that's a big "if".

Re: QB Ken Dorsey to start vs. Texans

Well, I think this pretty much seals up the loss. Dorsey has a very weak arm and shaky pocket presence.

The only saving grace will be that it is the Texans secondary, which features marginal safeties. However, I don't know if we can give Ken Dorsey's noodle arm time to try to throw overtop them.

Dorsey may have a weak arm but he is a smart kid...

I saw the hit that put out Anderson...it was a mercy killing after he threw 4 picks...

Yeah, Dorsey does grasp the mental part of the game and displays quality intangibles too. I will give him that.

But, he will never be more than a below average number two, average number three in my opinion. I am the first to tell you that arm strength isn't the sole measure a quarterback should be evaluated on, but I want at least a live arm out of my guy. Dorsey doesn't even have that. His sloppy mechanics absolutely must be improved if he is to have a semi-bright future. He needs to push off his back foot and step into his throws. Right now, his puts an unequal amount of weight on his front foot which flattens the zip of the ball.

I don't know... under the right circumstances, a smart QB with a dead arm can win. Look at the Jets for example.
