D. Jackson sidelined for Browns

Rookie inside linebacker D'Qwell Jackson had surgery on his toe yesterday and likely will miss the Cleveland Browns' final three games.

Jackson was suffering from "turf toe," a relatively common injury that usually can heal with rest. He was hurt Dec. 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel ruled Jackson out of Sunday's game against the Ravens, and it's doubtful the 23-year-old will play in Cleveland's last two games.

Jackson, a second-round pick out of Maryland, started all 13 games and has 115 tackles. He recorded double-digit tackles in each of the past three games, and Crennel has been pleased with his steady improvement.

Great, just what the Browns need. Another injury on defense. Is this team snakebit or what? Jackson had really been coming on as of late, to boot. He's going to be a fine linebacker someday, I'm guessing. But in this train wreck of a season, I guess something like this was bound to happen.

For this year, it really doesn't matter who gets injured. Crennell will be back next year. Maybe they can luck out and get an easy schedule next year like the Jets had this year. They certainly have the talent to be better - much better - than they were this year.

They will have a good chance of being better next year. They need to draft well though. Depending on where they get to draft, they need Quinn or Peterson. Then draft nothing but O-line.Take the best available every time. The whole line sucks. Bentley was brought in as the anchor of the line and with his knee injury there is no guarantee he will come back as teh player he was.
