Fire Tommy Bowden

Is Clemson Tigers head coach Tommy Bowden on the hotseat?

He is according to Rivals.com, who says, "The Tigers have never endured a losing seasons under Bowden. But they've never won a championship, either. That's eight years of being good, but not good enough for a program that longs for a return to national significance. Last season was especially disappointing. Even with a double overtime loss to Boston College, the Tigers got off to a 7-1 start and were in good shape to contend for the ACC championship. But then they lost four of their final five, including 31-28 to rival South Carolina."

So what's in Bowden's future? Is being just good not good enough for the Clemson football program?

Never mind that his old man is the winningest coach in Division I history, right?

But I agree with you on Tommy. He pretty much needs to win the ACC this year or he's gone, at least, that's how I see it.

He can't be fired. That'd be like Joe Pa getting the axe.

I agree though, he should walk away at the end of the season if they don't win the conference championship. FSU just hasn't done well (ie...win ACC championships) in recent years.

Re: Fire Tommy Bowden

Speaking of Bowdens and buying time, how much time did Tommy buy himself with last night's win over FSU?

Oops...wrong Bowden here.

As for Clemson's Bowden...he just kicked off his season with a bang. As long as they finish at the top (1-3) of the ACC and get a good bowl game...he should be comfortable.

I don't think so Empire. I had the privilege to go to Death Valley last year and watch UNC and Clemson play. I sat next to some big money givers and we were talking about our coaching situations. At the time, we as UNC fans knew that is was going to be Bunting's last year. And these guys around me were fed up with Bowden. He has been there since 1999 and in hie first two years he played and lost in two very good bowls but with players that were not even really his. Since that time he has played in 1 good bowl and won it against Tennessee. He has had only 2 seasons where he has posted over 8 wins (2000 & 2003). He lost to Kentucky last year in the Music City Bowl. I know that Kentucky is developing into a pretty decent program, but Clemson gets great recruits. It's hard to think that they could not do better than they are doing.

I think Bowden is on the hot seat and he will have to win the ACC to stay around another year. And I just don't see him doing that this year.

Re: Fire Tommy Bowden

If Tommy can get his team to consistently play as well as they played against FSU then they may well be a National Title contender. They have the ingredients. We will have to see what Tommy is made of this year is his make it or break it season.

Re: Fire Tommy Bowden

Will Tommy's "MAN CRUSH" be his undoing? Think about what parents are thinking about his comments about a Clemson baseball player. These were made serious and not in a joking manor. What is going on down there?

Re: Fire Tommy Bowden

Ya know after 10 years as a head coach you would think Tommy would have learned something. Keep your mouth shut. Nobody wants to hear him make over another man. If that is his orentation he should just keep it to himself. If I were a player's parent it would make me rethink a commitment to Clemson.

Re: Fire Tommy Bowden

The issue about his orientation aside, it is 100% inappropriate for any coach to make comments like this about any of their athletes. Didn't LSU recently fire their women's basketball coach for something strikingly similar to this? I just heard what he said this morning, and there is no way he as a football coach and a representative of his university, should be making comments like that about one of his players, regardless of gender.

So why don't they fire him?

I can't answer that. Only Clemson knows how they intend to handle this, and last I checked, they have yet to address it at all.

The ladies basketball coach at LSU was fired because she was having a relationship with one of the players.

Bowden's comments are way out of line.
