CLEMSON – Bottom line, Dabo Swinney said Tuesday after the Clemson University football team's first preseason scrimmage, “It is real obvious we've got a long way to go.”
The defense is ahead of the offense, which is typical after one week. And there were a number of offensive mistakes because most of the questions about this team are on that side of the ball.
“We used a lot of guys that aren't going to play, but you've got to do that,” Swinney said. “You've got to give guys a chance to compete.”
With much of the peripheral attention on the quarterbacks, there's little attention to the competition at center, right tackle and receiver. On defense, it's purely a matter of developing depth at linebacker and safety.
