| Janish forced back to the hill Reds shortstop Paul Janish hoped there wouldn't be another night like this as the infielder took one for the Reds by throwing for an inning in rout. This is the second time a position player has been called on to pitch for the Reds. He pitched the 8th inning of Cincinnati's 22-1 defeat by the Phillies. Reds starter Johnny Cuerto only lasted two thirds of an inning. May 6 during a 15-3 loss to the Brewers Janis pitched ninth inning. He gave up 5 runs. This time he allowed 6 runs including a grand slam to Jayson Werth. Janish forced back to the hill | MLB.com: News

| Re: Janish forced back to the hill Sometimes position players are put on the mound because the picthing coach doesn't want to tire out any relievers in a game that is already over. However, if the score is 22-1? I think you have to try and stop the bleeding at some point.
