| Re: Bronson Arroyo slump The word on Arroyo, from what one of my Boston Red Sox friends told me, is that he is always incredible the first time teams see him. From what he told me, he was lights out everytime he would see a team for the first time in the AL, but the more batters see him, the less effective he is. I didn't want to believe it, but it seems to be holding true this season.
From watching yesterday, arroyo hangs his slider every single time to left handed hitters. A slider that break only 6 inches, and over the meat of the plate, belt high is a gift for any major league pitcher. To limit homeruns to left handed hitters he needs to drop that crap slider he has and add maybe a sinker or split finger. Something that's going to dive down on hitters. rather than hang belt high.
It's really just a prime example as to why every team wants left handed hitters. Left handed hitters see the ball alot longer from right handed pitchers in vice versa. Watch any Yankee game where Randy Johnson is pitching. The opposing team stacks their lineups with right handed hitters because they can see the ball longer. Arroyo's slider is just nothing like Johnson's. |
