Griffey hits homer No. 600

Ken Griffey Jr. hit career homer No. 600 in the first inning Monday against Mark Hendrickson.
With a crowd of maybe 10,000-12,000 in Florida to watch it. Griffey's shot was a no-doubter to right field. It was his first homer of June and seventh of the season. He's the sixth player to reach 600 homers, and he's now 10 away from passing Sammy Sosa for fifth place all-time.

The Associated Press: Griffey becomes 6th to reach 600 homer milestone

Congrats to Griffey Jr!

He's always been a hard guy not to like. I wish injuries hadn't gotten the better of him the last few seasons. He might have topped Aaron instead of Bonds.

most definitley, I have always liked him since his seattle days, his swing is one of the smoothest in the mlb.

Fantastic, glad to hear it. Yeah, he become the 6th guy to do it, but like Goth, you got to put him in with the Big 3 on that list, because of how he's done it. I'm absolutely thrilled the kid hit the milestone, but at the same time... what if? What if he had managed to stay healthier throughout his career? Barry Bonds would've always been second best on that HR list.

yeah I got to give him a nod over Bonds and Sosa...though I think the record will be A-Rods...right?

He was pacing himself...great things take time...me, I would have waited for 30,000 fans and an ESPN camera.

Re: Griffey hits homer No. 600

Interesting article in the Philly paper abt Jr. The game before he got #600, a woman in the stands with 3 kids asked him for an autographed during the game! He politely told her that they were not allowed to sign during the game. The woman and her kids then began to yell at him and tell him he stunk and his team stunk. Now who could blame him if he told her to get lost or even if he just walked away. But showing what a true class guy he is, the next inning he walked over and handed her 3 autographed balls. The day he retires will truely be a sad day... not many class guys like him still out there.

Re: Griffey hits homer No. 600

Playing through the aches and pains is what allowed these other guys to achieve the marks they set- Aaron, Ruth, and Mays. Remember, if Ruth hadn't pitched all those years the record would be in the 800s. If Mays hadn't played in a wind tunnel who knows how many he could have hit.
