Does anyone realize that Joe Morgan hit over .300 just twice and was a career .271 hitter? But he is fifth all time in baseball in walks. I would bet most fans would have thought he had hit for a higher average.

Naw, knew that...big Reds fan and lots of baseball card stats reading...the two times he did hit over .300 he was the NL MVP you might add. Which is a feat on a team that had Rose, Bench and Perez, and a George Foster who did not peak til 1977.

oh...sorry...

I guess his on base percentage and steals made him a threat to always score regardless...always wondered why it wasn't him instead of Rose batting lead off....I am a Rose fan, but how the heck you leave a guy with a +.400 on base percentage and 50-60 steals batting second? Plus Rose was such a good contact hitter that batting him second still made sense.
