Bedard to the Reds??

Has anybody else heard this rumor. I was looking at the Enquirer webpage and saw someone in the Reds organization gave the trade about 75% chance to get done. The only holdup is the Orioles want Jay Bruce, but they are unwilling to part with him. They seem to be offering Homer Bailey, Joey Votto, and another top prospect....likely Cueto. That will be most of their top prospects.

I don't know how I feel about this yet. It would be great to have Bedard along with Harang and Arroyo, but that is a lot to give up to get him. Homer is going to be a stud, and Votto showed at the end of last season what he can do.

Is this too much to give???

Re: Bedard to the Reds??

This is the first I've heard of this rumor, but I'd do it. Bedard is a phenomenal young pitcher, and I'm sure parting with Bailey and the prospects would sting, teams like the Reds don't get cracks at these guys all too often. They definitely should seize the opportunity and then see about locking him up long-term.

Re: Bedard to the Reds??

The only problem IMO w/ Bedard is his health record. But if that weren't an issue, this would be a no brainer.

Bailey hasn't proven anything in the majors yet. But this is a risk either way.

I think I would agree. I am not having a problem giving up Homer, but I don't want to lose Votto. I think he is going to be a very special player.

Re: Bedard to the Reds??

Right now the trade seems dead. They can not get past Bruce from what I am reading. With the D-Backs getting Haren, it made the other West teams thinking they need to keep up. I am seeing the Dodgers as the leading candidate for Bedard although the Reds have made getting a pitcher of Bedard's talent a priority. This is the final year in Krivsky's contract. He better pull something off or he could be in trouble.
