Reds sign Francisco Cordero

Cordero has reached an agreement to play for the Reds next season by signing a 4 yr $46 million contract with a club option for a 5th year. The deal will go through as long as Cordero can pass a physical.

This is a good move for the Reds. They now have legitimate closer and can move Weathers back into the setup role he has been most of his career.

Re: Reds sign Francisco Cordero

Definitely a good move. Not a bad contract and you weaken a division rival. It will be interesting to see how well he does at the Great American though.

Re: Reds sign Francisco Cordero

He can not be any worse than Coffey was last year. He is an upgrade any time he is put in the game.

Re: Reds sign Francisco Cordero

Deal just got finalized today. Wonder what took them so long?

According to the Associated Press, "Cordero receives a $500,000 signing bonus payable by the end of this year, $8.5 million next year and $12 million in each of the following three seasons. Cincinnati has a $12 million option for 2012 with a $1 million buyout... Cordero has a full no-trade provision during the first two seasons of the contract and a limited no-trade for the remainder of the agreement."

I read in a blog that he was given the number 48 on his jersey. Krivsky said that was how many saves he is going to get next year.
