Adam Dunn takes a lot of crap from the media in Cincinnati because he strikes out a ton and doesn't hit for a high batting average and the general unwashed masses are completely unable to process why OPS is a better measure of batting prowess than batting average. Generally, Dunn's taken it all in stride. That was until Bill Cunningham actually accused him of being drunk on the field on a radio show last Friday. As per the Cincinnati Enquirer,
here are Cunningham's remarks:
"Adam Dunn looks like a monkey with a football in left field," Cunningham said. "He has to have consequences for what he does. That is again a loafing ball player who ... would have blew a .15 if someone gave (him) the intoxilizer last night. I say .15. The son of a gun is drunk. And he's playing baseball in left field for the Redlegs."
Dunn, understandably, is φφφφed:
"Isn't there a line?" Dunn said. "I think that goes over the line. We might want to do something about that."
