Ryan Freel injured

Reds CF Ryan Freel was injured in today's game vs. the Pirates.

According to the Associated Press, "Freel left the game in the third inning after running into right fielder Norris Hopper while catching Cota's fly ball on the warning track in right-center field. Freel was spun around and landed near the base of the wall. The game was delayed 13 minutes while Reds trainers and doctor looked at him before he was strapped onto a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance to be taken to a local hospital."

According to the Reds, Freel does have feeling in all his limbs and was coherent. No word yet as to how long he'll be out.

Re: Ryan Freel injured

I just hope he isn't paralyzed.

That was just a nasty collision.

Re: Ryan Freel injured

They're calling it a head and neck contusion, and as my first post says, he has feeling in all his extremeties. Freel should be fine.

Re: Ryan Freel injured

I thought this was funny:

Junior was asked if it was tough going out there and playing after seeing a teammate on the ground and taken off the field in an ambulance. He said,

"Yeah, it's usually me. I'm usually the one looking up at everyone else."

Re: Ryan Freel injured

Just an update. Ryan Freel is starting a rehab assignment with Louisville today. They will start him as the DH and work him into the OF.

Re: Ryan Freel injured

Freel has been brought off the DL and Moeller has been DFA. He will resume his job as super sub.

Well, that's good news for the Reds. Maybe he can provide some kind of spark for this team. It's been over a month.

Re: Ryan Freel injured

Freel's out for the year after having knee surgery on Wednesday. According to the Associated Press, "Freel has been bothered by a bone spur and cartilage damage in his right knee. He hoped that doctors could get him back on the field this season, but knew that the knee most likely would require more extensive repair and rehabilitation... The 31-year-old outfielder is expected to be ready for spring training."
