A Game Even the Reds Can Win - Fantasy Draft

Are there really an Reds fans out there? If there are I hope you are as disgusted with the baseball as much as I am.

I see that there are four or five people that have added posts to this board. I can't determine if these are actual supporters of the Redlegs or people just looking for something to talk about.

I can assure you there is nothing to talk about in 2006 when examining the Cincinnati Reds. Nothing at all. They are dead from the start, just as in 2005, and just as they will be in 2007. There really is no point in speculating what they will do. Well, unless you are a Yankee fan and they have a player you are interested in, then there may be something to talk about. But it doesn't interest me.

Anyway, I am nearing 30 and have some very fond memories of Riverfront Stadium. Good days, good times, and some pretty good baseball teams. So, for all of you true Reds fans, as I consider myself, I have a proposal for you.

Lets have a historical fantasy draft. There is only 1 rule and that is you cannot select any members of the big red machine. Other than that it will be simple: you may slect any player post 1980 that you like that was not on the team in 76' or 77', once a player is selected you cannot select a player of the same position until an entire starting 9 is filled, with the exception of outfield, let's say 4 outfielders, and bullpen, lets say 3 relief guys.

I will go first.

With the first pick I will take.
Eric "the red" Davis to play center field.

Tom Seaver SP (Techincally he was not part of the Big Red Machine...he came on board in 1977 after a trade with the Mets, and went 14-3 for them the rest of the way. He also pitched into the 80's and only saw the playoffs with them in 1979).

#11 "The Dutch Master" Johnny Vander Meer (SP)
Four time All-Star and the only player in MLB history to toss back-to-back no-hitters.

Sorry Lefty ...read the fine print...Who Dey is calling for post 1980 players only, and none from the Big Red Machine... I would have thrown in Jim Maloney, Frank Robinson, Vada Pinson, Ted Kluzinski etc...but rules are rules

#11 Kevin Mitchell (OF) (thats cool, I guess I'll add a little pop to the line up, I think Mitchell hit 46 bombs one year, so b/n him and Parker we should be okay on the power front as well. I guess thats it for the outfield.
