Reds sign Arroyo to extension

The Reds signed pitcher Bronson Arroyo to a 2 year extension through 2010 with a club option for 2011. He gets a 2.5 million signing bonus in 2008. He earns 9.5 million in 2009 and 11 million in 2010 with incentives for pitching a certain amount of innings. The option year is for 11 million.

I guess this ends the rumors that he was just riding out this contract, so he can go back to Boston as a free agent.

Well, that's certainly good news. With Arroyo and Harang locked up, the Reds aren't in that bad of shape.

Cool Re: Reds sign Arroyo to extension

It was good that they locked up Arroyo. The back end of their rotation is a little shaky: Milton, Lohse, Ramirez and Saarloos.

The closing situation is also not too good with David Weathers and Mike Stanton competing for the job.

They now have a good 1-2 punch with Harang and Arroyo. Milton has been a bust since they got him. I am holding judgment on Lohse. He wasn't that good in Minnesota, but he showed flashes of good pitching last year. I want to see if he can improve on that. I am also a big fan of Ramirez. I think he is going to be good. Saarloos is heading to the pen, I believe, if Homer Bailey has a good spring and makes the team.

They really do need a good closer. They resigned Guardado, but I don't expect too much out of him this year.

Hey azrael: posting at 4:05 AM, on the graveyard shift? Are you an early riser or do you have insomnia? Or did you just come in from a night of drinking?

I work 6-6:00. On my off days, I have trouble sleeping on a regular schedule. I get real tired around 9:00. Sometime after 12:00, no matter how tired I am I can't sleep. I usually end up on the couch, so I don't wake the wife and kids up.
