Coach: Bengals wont deal Johnson

The Cincinnati Bengals will not trade Chad Johnson and, furthermore, have never discussed doing so, coach Marvin Lewis told the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the Redskins want an elite wide receiver and were interested in trading for Johnson.
"No. 1, the guy has a contract through 2001, OK. No one within the Bengals organization has ever spoken of or ever uttered anything about trading Chad Johnson, nor will he be traded. ... So I think that's pretty clear. Things can move on," Lewis said, according to the newspaper and the team website.

The NFL Players Association confirmed Tuesday that the Bengals would take an $8.03 million salary cap hit if they traded or released Johnson before June 1.

Usually when a coach says absolutely positively something will or will not happen, you can bet that it will be the opposite thing that happens the next day. However, the last paragraph tells me that maybe it wont be until later in the year that we see anything happening.

Yeah, the $8 million hit against the cap finally explains why they're not going to trade him. Dumping him now would just be too costly.

Just because a player wants to be traded, doesnt mean the coach wants him traded

True, but in this case, if the cost against the cap wasn't so high, it'd benefit the team as well. At least, that's my POV.
