| Bengals' coach Lewis faces ankle surgery Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair torn tendons in his left ankle, the club announced late Tuesday afternoon. The operation will be performed by Dr. Jim Amis at Good Samaritan Hospital. The Bengals' practice schedule won't change, and assistant head coach Paul Alexander — who also serves as the offensive line coach — will stand in for Lewis in the event of any absence by the head coach. "The timing of this is not what I wanted," Lewis said Tuesday afternoon. "But I've been counseled it's the best plan to ensure that I can be fully productive during the regular season." The Bengals are due to practice Wednesday at an unspecified time, but there is no media access. Lewis' weekly news conference is scheduled for Thursday at 1:15 p.m. Alexander will be at the mike if Lewis cannot attend. Bengals' coach Lewis faces ankle surgery |

The surgery was an outpatient procedure, and he was discharged this afternoon from Good Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Jim Amis performed the surgery. "The surgery went without complications," Amis told the Bengals public relations staff. "Coach Lewis will initially be in a cast, and then we will work with him on his rehab. He will be inconvenienced for some time due to lack of mobility, but he'll soon be able to resume his essential activities." Bengals: Lewis surgery successful |
