Carson Palmer Knee Injury

What is the deal with Palmer's knee injury. I don't think I remember hearing how the surgery went. I was just reading an article on espn.com about it...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2290239

Can anybody help me out?

Re: Palmer's Knee

Last I heard, his return for this season was questionable. I don't think they've been releasing regular updates about his condition, though, so we may not hear anything until closer to training camp. Or if the Bengals make a big push for a free-agent QB. That'd pretty much be a dead giveaway, wouldn't it?

Re: Carson Palmer Knee Injury

Oh he will be back. The only question is when. Rumorville says it is highly unlikely that he will be placed on the PUP (physicaly unable to perform) list. Meaning that he should be back starting within the first six games.
Look, the Bengals just invested $110 million in this guy before Vonolhofen rolled on his knee, so don't look for the team to bail on Mr. Palmer just yet.
However, if you read the tea leaves a little closer you see it is just as unlikely that Carson will be starting week one for the oragne and black. Alegedly the NFL was excited about haveing the first game of the year, played the thursday before the first Sunday, be the Bengals at Pittsuburgh. In rencent happenings it seems the league office has put a chill this possibility. The most likely reason I can speculate is because Carson Palmer will not be playing.
It is very sad, but we as Bengal fans all have to admit, without Carson Palmer the Bengals would struggle against a good highschool team.

Re: Carson Palmer Knee Injury

I agree who dey. Palmer was the glue of the offense, and without him they struggled mightily against the Steelers in the playoffs.

I am going to have to keep digging to find some more information on this. Maybe the Cincy papers have something; I'll see what I can find.

Re: Carson Palmer Knee Injury

I didn't mean to make it sound like they were going to cut him or anything. Palmer's clearly their QB when healthy, no doubt about it. All I was saying was that if we see them go out and sign Gus Frerrotte or somebody to a 1-year deal, then we know the prognosis isn't good. It was a major injury and it'll take time to heal, so I wouldn't be surprised if he does miss at least the first couple of games in '06.

Re: Carson Palmer Knee Injury

Gus Ferrote....... Yikes!!! Nooooooooooo... Not again.
Gus Ferrote has less of chance at becoming a Bengal again then Jeff Blake. And to tell you the truth, I'd rather see "shake n' blake" back in the stripes.
No, right now it clearly looks like either Maddux or Wright. I guess there are a handful of other QB's it could be, but I assure you Gus Ferrote is not one of them, there would be riots in the streets.

Re: Carson Palmer Knee Injury

Palmer finally broke the silence on this earlier in the week.

Quote:
Palmer estimates his rehab is one-quarter complete and that he is "exactly where I should be at week 10" of his program. He met with Cincinnati media for the first time since surgery on Jan. 10 appearing confident and upbeat.

Minicamp is out of the question, he said. Training camp not very likely and the preseason iffy. Palmer expects to play in the regular-season opener, but the Bengals are looking at veteran free-agent quarterbacks just in case.
Source: AP

Is it realistic for him to be shooting for the season opener? It looked like an awful bad injury, and it'd be a shame if he wound up reinjuring it because he rushed it. But then, Cincy is slowly running out of free agent options to serve as his backup...

Cool Re: Carson Palmer Knee Injury

Joey Harrington might be the perfect guy. I actually think he's not half bad. Put him in the right situation instead of the joke that was the Lions and he could thrive until Palmer is ready. Very similar to what Plummer did for the Broncos.
