| Ozzie Guillen controversy I'm sure everyone's heard about the slur Chicago White Sox manager used when describing Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti. If not, here's an AP article describing the incident. The White Sox have already said they won't discipline their manager. Do you think baseball will? Should they? |

Baseball should make a list as to what slang is appropriate to use in the mist of a tirade...just so everyone is on the same freakin apge...Ozzie took aim at a sports writer...not against a group of people for their sexual oritentation...Schott was a total idiot and ignorrant as the day is long, but she was not malicious... We have got to make up our freakin collective minds...do we put people like Ozzie on a pedestal for his comeptitive nature that yields wins, or public stone him for his choice of words in the heat of an argument...Can't have it both ways...or better yet, the classic "It takes one to know one!" The offended writer could have simply replied..."Well, I am rubber and Ozzie you are glue," and stuck out his tongue at him.... But no...he has to be so freakin offended that its a Headline...give me a break... |

| If Guillen were white, all hell would be breaking loose. By calling Mariotti a homosexual slur, the implication is that its a knock to homosexuals. In general, minorities can get away saying what the majority can't. Two examples: 1. Charles Barkley when answering a reporters question answered: "That's why I hate White people." 2. Spike Lee says when he sees an interacial couple walking hand and hand it makes him sick. As far as Guillen goes, I think the guy is a great manager and to me what he said was no big deal but there's such a double standard, it's ridiculous. Also, his mouth is eventually goanna be his undoing. He says whatever comes to his mind and that's not always good. |

I guess if he had called him an "SOB"...it would have offended out of wedlock mothers everywhere...If he would have called him a "Commie"...the ACLU would have been all over him for picking on people of a different political inclination... Had Ali called Frazier an "ugly gorilla this day and age"...freakin PETA would have been all over him...and the fight in Manila would have been canceled...how dare he insult primates everywhere...(by a monkey statement did Howard Cosell in) ...the list would be endless...homosexuality is only the flavor of the day... Like I said, lets provide a list of insults that can be hurled... |

| Re: Ozzie Guillen controversy This shouldn't be as gigantic a deal as it is. Of course people will be offended when a public figure uses a slur. Should Ozzie be fined or suspended? of courst not. He should've chosen his words more carefully and I'm sure he realized what he did afterwards. |

Mainly, I'm just interested in this story to see how baseball Ozzie in comparison to Schott and Rocker. |

Guillen was mad at this idiot reporter (I personally dislike Mariotti) and didn't think about what he said. It was in the heat of the moment. MLB should take no action in the case. |

Why doesn't MLB just put out a list..."25 slang, slur, or naught words you can't use in the major leagues"...something along those lines...I would have let it go at a public apology...you are opening the floodgates for every single organization out there to offically be offended by something... Next up the Indians and Braves have to change their names...and the Reds as well, cause...well it's offensive to communists in Red China...and the International Maritime Organization (look it up, there is such a thing)filed a complaint against Ozzie as well...they took exception to his phrase of, "those bleeping Mariners in Seattle, who the bleep do they think they are." |

| Re: Ozzie Guillen controversy I know Torre had to sit out a game because Johnson almost hit someone. Guillen, while saying whatever comes to mind, will eventually cut his own throat in Chicago. That will come when he is no longer winning. Right now he is described as opinionated and a breath of fresh air. But if he starts to lose, those same people will be calling him a bigot and a racist. That's jut the way it is and always will be. Personally, he keeps me entertained and I could care less who he offends, but mark my words, when the winning stops for any extended period of time, if it does, Ozzie won't be long for there.

| Re: Ozzie Guillen controversy Just to clear something up, there were two fines - one for each incident. I was watching on ESPNews earlier today where Kenny Williams basically said that if Guillen keeps on acting like this, than he can see the day coming where he'll have to fire him. I think more than anything he's trying to scare Ozzie into keeping his trap shut for a while, but somehow I don't see that working. Outspoken can get you in a lot of trouble under the wrong circumstances. |
