Re: Freddy Garcia sets pitching record I don't think that it is an obscure record at all. African Americans got all the acclaim when they were the first to do something. And as far as the Venezuelans...this is only the beginning. Don't you think?

Re: Freddy Garcia sets pitching record Whether or not it should be an obscure record is up to debate, but I know for sure it's one I never knew about or thought about before today. That said, there are a lot of excellent Venezuelan pitchers in baseball right now. I somehow don't think Garcia's record will last all too long.

Re: Freddy Garcia sets pitching record Freddy Garcia is a great pitcher who doesn't get a lot of publicity anymore. I remember his dominant seasons in the past (preferably the 2001 season with the Mariners) and his role in last year's World Series win. I am glad that he achieved this hard-fought record.

Re: Freddy Garcia sets pitching record Garcia will be 30 in June, with the capability of winning perhaps 15 games a year for the next five seasons at least. this would give him about 180 wins- a pretty good benchmark for Johan Santana to shoot for. But be assured that Santana will bolt the Twins as soon as his contract situaion allows him to. Think he will look good in those pinstripes?

Re: Freddy Garcia sets pitching record I have no clue. You would have to ask Legend for the answer. Don't forget that Félix Hernández can chase after the record too. Before the 2006 season he switched numbers from 59 to 34. Number 34 belonged to Freddy Garcia when he played as a Mariner.
