Chicago White Sox general manager Kenny Williams says he won't dump proven players for prospects, moves that could touch off a one or two year rebuilding process.

Instead, Williams may make moves for the short term, like the one rumored to be Jermaine Dye and Juan Uribe to the San Diego Padres for shortstop Khalil Greene and relief pitcher Scott Linebrink.

Or maybe Williams unloads fading pitcher Jose Contreras for a promising rookie outfielder like the Los Angeles Dodgers' Matt Kemp or the Philadelphia Phillies' Michael Bourn.

Linebrink is a good pitcher, but Dye seems like a lot to give up for Greene and him...but then again, if they're not going to re-sign Dye, I guess you get back what you can.

What does everyone else think about these potential deals?

I don't know why anybody would want to touch Dye right now. He can't hit the ball.

The Mets have been linked to Dye recently. I guess they would be looking to take a chance on Dye's bat heating up down the stretch.

It's not like it would be a HUGE gamble since his contract ends at the end of the season. The only thing is, who would it take to acquire Dye? You can bet Omar Minaya wouldn't be dealing Milledge for Dye.

Dye hit 2 dingers yesterday. If I were a GM and I needed a righthanded bat, I would totally take a chance on him. He was almost MVP last year.
