Pants Rowland (What's in a name)

Pants Rowland:

For me baseball began somewhere in the late 1990's. Anything before that might as well be ancient history. So if you any of you are going to talk about some forgotten baseball walking obituary from a century ago, I have no choice but to go to my PC and find out what the heck it is you are all talking about.

That brings me to Pants Rowland, who someone is trying to pass off as the greatest of all great Chicago White Sox. Was he great? Turns out the guy never played in the big leagues! I mean he did a lot of other stuff like manage the White Sox, but not play. Still he got himself a nickname. How? Good questions boys and girls.

Pants got his name because the first team he played on did not have a uniform that fit him. The pants slide down to his ankles. Lacking in proper friends with good manners, he had no choice but to accept the obviously mean spirited name that the rest of the team gave him, which was "Pants."

Still Pants did not let this bother him. He developed a wonderful personality and was very charming. While being an umpire one day he called Mr. Babe "Don't you wish Barry Bonds was more like me," Ruth out at home plate. When the Babe jumped up to argue with Pants, Mr. Rowland started to dust of the Babe's uniform and tell him what a fabulous player he was and what a great slide he made. Ruth of course got over it and went back to sit with his cronies in the dugout.

Okay, that is all. If you want more, go do your own dumb research.

Legal disclaimer: For legal purposes and as to not let anyone think I made this up, Mr. Rowland's obituary was used for the context of this post. Also, no small animals were hurt during the writing of this post, nor was the poster compensated in any way shape or form by the GTG powers that be.

Disclaimer #2: All credits for this post, whether good or bad, should go to Simple Simon. Simon wants you all to know that it was his reference to Pants Rowland that lead to me searching the net for who the heck would have such a name. As a big bad mod, Simon also threaten to silence my posting forever if I did not mention him.
