Greatest White Sox in Team History...

Long and colorful history to this team including a scandal along the way. Anyone for Shoeless Joe Jackson as the greatest Sox ever? Perhaps Wilber Woods, or Dick Allen or modern day superstar Frank Thomas? How about the leader of the Go-Go Sox Minnie Minoso or Luis Aparicio?

Well he and Shoeless Joe can certainly compete on just the name alone...

How about Nellie Fox?

Quote:
The first White Sox player elected MVP of the American League.
Only 216 career strikeouts in over 9,200 at-bats: the 3rd best percentage in MLB history.
Set the record for consecutive games played at second base, with 798.
12-time All-Star.
3-time Gold Glove Award winner.
Hold American League record for most double plays by a second baseman; second-most in the majors after Bill Mazeroski.
19 total seasons, 16 with the White Sox. Just a .288 career hitter but was always in the top 10 in the AL. Led the league in hits on four occasions, and eight times during his career he led the AL in singles. That aside, I just always have a soft spot for guys who excel on defense, and Nellie was one of the best.

I like Fox...he is a bit forgotten these days...and Aches and Pains Luke Appling...both which I would have included had I not wanted some fodder for the thread dug up by someone else.

Re: Greatest White Sox in Team History...

I give my vote to Shoeless Joe. He was not only a great player, but has been put into pop culture with the 'say it ain't so' headline. When I think about the White Sox, he is one of the first that pop in my head. Frank Thomas would be 2nd.

I kinda like the old unis as well... Eight Men out and Field of Dreams of course made those old flannels along with Shoeless a bigger part of our culture.

Do we really need to answer that wonderfully constructed sentence?...or should we let it stand as it is?
