Thome and Mackowiak

What do you guys think about the moves the World Series champs made during the offseason?

I know a lot of Sox fans will miss Frank Thomas, as he did a lot for the team over his career. But I think Jim Thome's actually an upgrade at DH. Sure, he was hurt a lot last year, but he's a career .280 hitter who has been known to put up 40 HR, 100 RBI numbers when healthy.

The guy to watch, though, is Rob Mackowiak. As a Pirates fan, I just hate to see this guy go. He an excellent utility player who will see time at third, center field and maybe even DH. Plus, he's a real Mickey Hatcher type -- the kind of guy who always seems to add a spark whenever its needed, you know? He'll be good for about 10 HR and 50 RBI off the bench.

I am a huge Pirates fan as well, and agree that Mackowiak is a big loss for them. Like you said he always seemed to provide that spark when we needed it most. He is a great addition for the Sox. He will surely be good for 10 HR and at least 50 RBI.

I wish him the best of luck; he was always a classy ball player!

Do you think the Sox will be able to repeat? What is their pitching rotation looking like this season? Any valuable additions that I am forgetting?

Oh sure, put me on the spot! It's not even spring training!

Well, they've got a shot. They are a better team this year, and I think they'll win their division hands down. But its so hard to repeat, and the Yanks and BoSox are always tough. My gut tells me that they'll wind up playing in the ALCS, but they'll ultimately lose to one of those two clubs. That's my 2-cents, anyway.

Rob Mackowiak

Hey Guys!

You will love Rob Mackowiak. He is the perfect super-sub. He can play several positions both in the infield and outfield. He has a good arm and excellent speed. He seems to lose his effectiveness at the plate if he is used too often. Pittsburgh played him a lot in 2005. He is a gritty player and will fit in well. I watched his whole Pirate career. He can be Mr Clutch at times. I wish him well and just wanted to give you Sox fans something to get excited about.
