White Sox pitcher Buerhle pitched a perfect game yesterday .... an impressive feat to be sure .... but I don't think I'm as impressed as most.

27 outs per side make a complete game .... the White Sox got all 27 outs without giving up a hit or a walk ...... yeah that's impressive ..... but just how much did Buerhle have to do with it?

Buerhle pitched the complete game ... impressive in this day and age of overworked bull pens ........ he didnt walk any of the 27 batters he faced ... also impressive now a days

But, just how many of the 27 outs was he responsible for? He sturck out only 6 ..... the rest of his team was responsible for the other 21 outs. That's not so impressive to me ....... 3 times there have been pitchers that have struck out twenty or more .... (Kerry Wood struck out twenty .. Roger Clemens struck out twenty and twenty one).

Ok, I can take it, bring on the jeers .... I'm just not that impressed because a pitcher managed to pitch a complete game, not walk anyone, and strike out six batters.

A smart pitcher is one who does not need three pitches to produce an out... ...if it was so, Nolan Ryan's win percentage would be staggering compare to Greg Maddux...and its the other way around.

Buerhle made 116 pitches .... which averages to 4.3 pitches per out

I hate to, but Buerhle is not all that great...and when a non power pitcher throws a no-hitter there is a lot of luck involved...Buerhle gives up a .268 lifetime average against hitters...he has all of 8 lifetime shutout and never an ERA under 3.00...if not for the two no-no's he is very forgetable.

Sure there is some luck involved... but a perfect game is impossible to pitch without some luck... and yes... like I said the defense was really good! But... aside from that catch, and the 8th inning line drive that was 3 inches foul... there were no "tough" outs for the sox defense

I am not impressed by Mark Buerhle as a whole Phils my man...
However, seeing as the Phillies staff can't get it together this year, I may see where Buerhle as whole can seem impressive...

Having said that, luck and teammates do play a role in it...look at Tom Seaver...the man was three times the pitcher Buerhle is...and he lost a number of no hitters late in a game because a hit poked through the field...

It is what it is, a great (and lucky)game, by a slightly above average pitcher...

Of those 18 teams who were perfect game victims, they may have been the best.
Buerhle deserves props for that, if for no other reason.

Now, now Lefty, you know that "luck" is the difference between a perfect game and a really nice one hitter...

Look at your boy Harvey Haddox...he pitched one heck of a losing game once upon a time...his game was better pitched...his luck, not so good.
