SEATTLE — Aaron Heilman’s stay with the Seattle Mariners didn’t last long.

The reliever, obtained from the New York Mets last month, was traded to the Cubs on Wednesday for infielder Ronny Cedeno and left-hander Garrett Olson.

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry completed the deal while he was traveling in Rome.

A failed reliever with the Mets, Heilman could get the chance to start that he wants in Chicago. The 30-year-old grew up a Cubs fan in Indiana and graduated from Notre Dame.

Heilman had a pretty bad season last year. Thats quite a risk on the Cubs part.

You know what I think this? A trade for another pitching prospect, if you look at all the Cubs trades, this deal, the DeRosa, the Pie trade, and the Marquis trade they got what was keeping them from getting Peavy in the first place, pitching prospects, they couldn't make it work with a 3rd team who give them the prospects nessacairy. But now they may be close to having enough guys to make a Peavy trade work
