Re: Dusty Baker Fired

Does it sound like this may be the chance to fire Dusty Baker? Some Cubs fans sure think so.

Re: Dusty Baker Fired

I don't follow the Cubs a lot but from an outsiders perspective, the Cubs don't have a lot of good players to contend seriously. Not to mention it seems their rotation is always messed by injuries.

Baker knows how to manage, I wouldn't fire him. Get him better players.

Re: Dusty Baker Fired

Looks like this forum is the only place you're going to see the words "Dusty Baker" and "fired" together, at least until the end of the season. MLB.com is reporting that Chicago Cubs GM Jim Hendry "announced Baker would remain as the team's manager for the rest of the 2006 season." So is this the right move to make, or should the Cubbies have canned Baker?

Re: Dusty Baker Fired

Firing him at this point would serve no good. It's not like he's the reason they've played so poorly. I'd still give him one more year to see how he does. If, with a healthy roster, he doesn't contend, then you have no choice but to fire him.

Re: Dusty Baker Fired

Baker will get the axe after the season, and deservedly so for his screwing up a sure pennant in 2003's fiasco with the Marlins. It took the Cubs three more years to figure out Dusty is way overrated as a skipper, but he'll be gone in time for a new manager to try to break the unbreakable Curse of the Goat in 2007.

Cool Re: Dusty Baker Fired

Miller Huggins could have managed this team and they wouldn't have won 1 more game. You can't win when 2 of your best pitchers are hurt.
