TORONTO -- Don't look now, but the Cubs are starting to win on the road -- six of their last 10 road games, in fact, after winning two of three in Toronto over the weekend.
''We knew we were better than our road record showed, and we put a little more urgency into these games,'' said
Derrek Lee, referring to road kill that included a streak of seven straight series through May without winning one. ''We wanted to prove to ourselves that we could get it done.''
But manager
Lou Piniella's not sold on the road woes being fully resolved, at least not yet.
''We'll see,'' said Piniella, whose team improved to 16-17 on the road with the tough Tampa Bay Rays at goofy Tropicana Field coming this week. ''Look, we're playing with confidence, that's obvious, but let's see. We've got three tough games in Florida, and then we've got the crosstown rivalry [on consecutive weekends] and the Orioles in between. Let's hope we start playing better on the road.''
