What to Name Wrigley Field

Today's revelation that the Cubs' owners are open to selling off their stadium's name isn't unprecedented or terribly surprising, but still pretty sad. People will probably start pointing out that the name "Wrigley Field" is itself a commercial moniker that replaced "Cubs Field" in the 1920s, but...well, a lot of the fans go to Wrigley Field for its purist, traditional nature, and if they're going to start getting rid of that, the Cubs had better find some other reason for them to come. A World Series championship would probably work.

Wrigley Doublemint Gum needs to get in on this so the name doesn't actually have to change. Think of all the brownie points they'd get with consumers if the did this and then launched an ad campaign about how they did so in order to preserve baseball history.

Re: What to Name Wrigley Field

ya know, i normally dont have much of a problem with renaming a stadium ..... in fact i usually just only remember it as the old name ....... the stick is still the stick to me

and i am 1000000% behind naming rights of newly built stadiums .... if a company wants to foot a large portion of building a field and save taxpayers money then im all for it

Re: What to Name Wrigley Field

If they do sell naming rights, maybe they can make it "Wrigley Field Sponsored by Pepsi Cola" or something like that?

If they were smart they would do that...but how about something like "Wrigley Field, sponsored by Toshiba?"...I mean, it would seem like a sell out of a slice of Americana...no?

Cool Re: What to Name Wrigley Field

Unfortunately, this is what baseball has become. You can't blame them for increasing their revenue.

Yes ,its a business...but an out of control one...stop paying 10-10 pitchers $7-$10 million a year and you would not have to rename anything.

Re: What to Name Wrigley Field

Why are the baseball purists not up in arms about renaming landmarks like Wrigley Field, but they cried when baseball wanted to put spiderman on the bases?
