It's official. The Cubs and free-agent outfielder Fukudome have come to terms on a contract. MLB.com says it's a four-yer, $48 million deal.

He's the latest Japanese position player to hit the majors. The question now is, how will he handle living in the U.S. and playing in the majors.

Last year he played in 81 games (injury), 13 HR, 48 RBI, .294/.443/.520.

The year before, he hit 31 HR with a .351 BA.

I doubt the power translates, but I have seen him be compared to Ichiro.

Since Ichiro, it seems like teams think every Japanese player is going to be great. Ichiro is just a great player. They are rare.
