Donald Trump doesn't like
Mark Cuban one bit. Trump taunted him after his television show flopped, after the Mavericks were bounced in the first round of the playoffs
and said that Cuban "probably always wanted to be a winner all his life, and if ya look like him, you can't be a winner." Cuban fired back, saying that Trump wasn't rich enough to own a NBA team because every new business venture he tries is a failure.
It's awfully cute when billionaires fight with each other but what does it have to do with sports? Well, at a speaking engagement in Chicago over the weekend Trump said that he was going to look into buying the Cubs
to save them from a bid by Cuban. The
Chicago Sun-Times breaks down his statement.
The ego man shot a barb at billionaire Mark Cuban, who is part of a group hoping to buy the Cubbies, by chiding him for not winning anything in his life. Trump told the audience he was going to look into buying the Cubs Monday morning.
It's now Wednesday and there's been no news on his bid which makes it seem like it was just the latest round in his feud with Cuban rather than a sincere statement of his intentions. That's probably for the best as far as the Cubs are concerned. Trump wouldn't be buying them because he thought he could make them a winning team or a more successful one -- the Cubs don't have much problem drawing people to Wrigley even after a championship-less century -- but as a boost to his already outsized ego.
