Re: Maddux looking to go 5-0

Greg Maddux has won more that 300 games and pitched for over 2 decades, but he has never started the season 5-0. He will try to do just that this afternoon as the Cubs host the Brewers. Can the ageless wonder pull off the feat? He hasn't been good during his career against either Geoff Jenkins or Damian Miller.

Re: Maddux looking to go 5-0

Maddux went six and gave up two runs. Is that enough for the decision these days? What is the ruling? I thought it was six but didn't they change it to seven? I don't think Dusty would pull him if he wasn't gonna get the decision. I think the bullpen could stop these guys from getting five runs. Heck I don't even think we need to use the closer Dempster.

Re: Maddux looking to go 5-0

Yep, he did indeed earn the win to go to 5-0 for the first time in his career.

When asked about Maddux and why he's so successful, Jenkins said: "Great mechanics and he doesn't overthrow... He works the outer half of the plate and knows when to mix one inside. He's pitching as good as he ever has. He's going to be a Hall of Famer."

Could he possibly be having a career year? At 40 years of age?

Ah, man, Maddux had his first loss yesterday. The Diamondbacks beat him and the Cubbies, 5-1. Did you know Maddux is 1-9 lifetime against Arizona, and has never won at Chase Field?

Cool Re: Maddux looking to go 5-0

As good as he was in April, he's been that bad since. He's really been stinking it up. After he cost me 2 categories in fantasy because of yesterday's batting practice exhibition he put on, I put him on the bench this week and opted to take 2 starts from Buchholz instead. If my pitchers are going to get hammered, I might as well get more innings and K's.

Ouch! Awful move by me. Bucholz got hammered. Maddux will probably pitch a no hitter this week.

Re: Maddux looking to go 5-0

Have you been monitoring Greg Maddux's pitching statistics lately? Personally, I do not see a "no-hitter" coming his way too soon. Not as long as he keeps up his horrible streak of going 1-3 with a 8.46 ERA in his last 22.1 IP.

He had a nice start to the season, but that's about all.
