Jim Hendry and agent Larry O'Brien finalized a deal for free agent Ted Lilly on Wednesday night while the Cubs general manager was in the hospital undergoing an EKG.


Lilly, 30, who was 15-13 with a 4.31 ERA in 32 games for Toronto last season, agreed to a four-year, $40 million deal, O'Brien said.
"Ted Lilly is a Cub," O'Brien announced Wednesday night in the lobby of the Dolphin Hotel.

Am I the only one that sees this as a mistake. This is Ted Lilly we are talking about here. How does he get $10 million a year even in this inflated off season. He has a record of 59-58 with 4.60 ERA. That is 3rd or 4th starter numbers. They don't get $10 million.

The Cubs needed a lefty so, I guess, they were willing to pay for it.

I think Lily will have a lot more succes pitching in the National League, and having a more potent lineup to protect him. He'll become more confident, throw more strikes, and win more ballgames.

He just might live up to the $10 million a year...

No your not the only one , I totally think its crazy for a 500 pitcher , Don't get me wrong I did like Ted as a Jays but to give this guy that kind of money is nuts , Owners are making this get to be seen for the rich, Its suppose to be for the kids not just for the rich only , Its sad ...

Well, I like what Yahoo! Sports writer Jeff Passan had to say about it: "If every single man with a son in the U.S. is not teaching him to throw left-handed, he should have the Department of Family Services called, because if an average innings-eater can make $10 million a year, who's to say your kid can't?"
