Chicago Cubs Hire Lou Piniella This is according to baseball sources from the AP. Look for the announcement to be made tomorrow with Piniella reportedly getting a three-year contract. Can Piniella lead the Cubs back to being a serious team in the NL? He can't if Prior/Wood/Lee are always hurt, that's for sure.

Re: Chicago Cubs Hire Lou Piniella The Cubs couldn't go wrong with either man. This will probably be Piniella's last managerial job. If he could somehow find a way to break the Cubs' 98-year World Series slump, it would be the crowning achievement of his career. He would be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by acclamation.

Re: Chicago Cubs Hire Lou Piniella In no more than four years, the Cubs will win the World Series. I've said for a while now that the Cubs were one piece away from making a run. They'll be good next year- in contention and my favorite to win the central.

Re: Chicago Cubs Hire Lou Piniella With the exception of Zambrano, their starting pitching is pretty bad. Also, their offense scored the second lowest number of runs in the National League in 2006. They have a long way to go before they can contend.

Re: Chicago Cubs Hire Lou Piniella All they need is to get a few scribbles from some of the amazing FA pitchers this off-season and they might be set. Don't forget that Kerry Wood's contract is over and we can finally say goodbye!
