The Salt Lake City Tribune reports that the Bulls have asked the Utah Jazz for permission to interview assistant coach Tyrone Corbin for their vacant head-coaching position.

Corbin, a former DePaul star, is in his third year as an assistant to Jerry Sloan and is considered an up-and-coming young coach.

An interview wouldn't take place until the Jazz are out of the playoffs. They trail the Los Angeles Lakers 3-2 with Game 6 tonight.

''It's been great working in the Utah organization, especially with coach Sloan,'' Corbin told the Sun-Times recently by telephone between games of the second-round series against the Lakers.

Wow... I'd be surprised. I think a young team like Chicago needs a veteran voice on the bench, not a first-time head coach.

I disagree Lefty, if Corbin is the guy, I would like that move. He is a Chicago guy, he has coached under Jerry Sloan. I would like the move.

Well, a team could certainly do worse than a Sloan disciple. But it's not like this guy's been a long term assistant under him, you know?
