When the Bulls last traveled to New Jersey to open the season on Halloween, Ben Gordon was weighing a five-year, $50 million contract extension that he rejected that day.
When the Bulls visit the Nets tonight, Gordon could be mulling long-shot trade talks, a byproduct of turning down that offer and the team's losing season.
But there's almost no chance Gordon will be dealt by the NBA deadline Thursday. Bulls officials found out weeks ago there is little market for Gordon because of his salary expectations when he becomes a restricted free agent this summer.
''It is a huge obstacle,'' one source said.
Gordon, who will return to the lineup tonight after missing 12 of the last 14 games because of a sprained right wrist, said Tuesday he has given little thought to being traded.
''I let [rumors] roll off my back, knowing that I can't do anything about it,'' he said. ''You have to come to grips with it at a point in your career. I've done that. You go about your business and wait to see what happens.''
