This fall, the new Big Ben Collection hits the market. It's partly a clothing line, but features Wallace's first signature gym shoe, which he will wear this season. Cost per pair: $14.98. Wallace followed the lead of NBA guard Stephon Marbury, who last year endorsed a similarly-priced, high-quality sneaker (the Starbury). Wallace wants to make gym shoes affordable for kids without the resources to buy status-symbol brands that can cost $200 a pair. Wallace recalled that he had difficulty buying decent gym shoes when he was a kid. "Where I grew up at, who I grew up with, and the way I was brought up, helped me to understand that once I found myself in a better situation . . . that I should try to help," said Wallace. His many good works in the Richmond area are tough to quantify, because Wallace chooses not to talk about them. "I'm not doing it for people to recognize me and say 'Hey look, Ben is doing this, he's doing that,'" Wallace said. "As long as the people I'm doing it for appreciate it, then I'm all right."
