| Bears looking OT in Round 1? If you weren't convinced before that the Bears are going after an offensive tackle with the 14th pick in this weekend's draft, you should be now. There was enough misdirection and razzle-dazzle in Tuesday's pre-draft gathering to fill a Gary Crowton playbook, but if you read between the lines, it was easy to get a sense of which way the team will go. ''You can't win in this league without being solid up front, no matter how good your back is, no matter how good your quarterback is,'' offensive coordinator Ron Turner said. ''It all starts up there.'' General manager Jerry Angelo said it's as important to weigh players at different positions against each other as it is to survey who will be available at each position the next time around. Translated, if you take a running back in the first round, what kind of offensive lineman will you be looking at in Round 2? In this draft, it won't be one you can count on plugging in immediately with two starting vacancies to fill. Bears looking to go OT in first round :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Bears

| Re: Bears looking OT in Round 1? Makes sense to me. It's a weak QB draft, and a strong enough RB draft to snag someone in round #2. So snag a first-round OT to help out Grosssman and the running game. My only question is, since it seems like a lot of teams are thinking offensive line this year, who will still be on the board for Chicago?

| Re: Bears looking OT in Round 1? How would getting a offensive linemen in the first round help and then RB or QB in the later round, it should be the other way around. Their copying what the dolphins are doing with Jake Long. A good offensive line is needed if you have a good QB or RB or Both, but having some of the best offensive line with Sorry QB and RB is just stupid, just look at the bears, strong O-line but slow QB and poor RB that is inury prone, get an linemen for what, what is there to protect. Same for the Dolphins, what is one Jake Long going to do with a QB like theirs, Nothing. Lets face it bears are not going anywhere far by the way management is running things. '85 bears had a powerful defense ok QB and 1 of the best RB ever to play the game, now let's look at today's bears- strong defense, strong O-Line but no good QB or RB. Best Scenario for the bears to be a Superbowl contender. Dump the whole Offensive line thats sucking up the Salary Cap that Lovie Smith don't need. Trade olin Kreutz for a good WR or Draft pick and use that money for a good QB and RB. |
