| Hester sees himself Competing for a Starting Spot ![]() LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears see Devin Hester as more than just the greatest return specialist who ever lived. With receiver Muhsin Muhammad already out the door and fellow starter Bernard Berrian possibly exiting via free agency, Hester’s role on offense is expected to expand in 2008—and that’s just fine with him. “I think it’s a good idea,” Hester said. “It gives me an opportunity to get my hands on the ball a little more, and that’s part of my talent.” That cannot be disputed. After setting an NFL record with five kick return touchdowns as a rookie in 2006, Hester eclipsed the mark with six in 2007. His 11 TDs in 32 career games are just two short of the league record held by Brian Mitchell, who appeared in 223 contests. After playing cornerback as a rookie, Hester displayed his game-breaking abilities on offense in 2007. He caught 20 passes for 299 yards including TDs of 81 yards against the Minnesota Vikings and 55 yards versus the New Orleans Saints, both at Soldier Field.
