Thumbs down Bears Sign Rex Grossman to One-Year Deal

INDIANAPOLIS – Some in his position might have looked at free agency as a ticket out of a town, as a chance to start over with a different team in a new city where the scrutiny isn’t as relentless.

But not quarterback Rex Grossman. On Saturday, the 2003 first-round draft pick agreed to a one-year contract with the Bears.

“I love the organization,” Grossman told ChicagoBears.com late last month. “They drafted me. A lot of bad things have happened to me since I’ve been here with injuries and things, but the 2006 season was a special one. We almost completed the ultimate goal. I want to finish that. I want to finish what I started and I want to be a Bear for the rest of my life.”
Grossman helped lead the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006 in his first full season as a starter, but he was heavily criticized for committing a rash of turnovers in a handful of poor outings.

The former Florida star was benched after starting the first three games in 2007, but he performed much better in five games after regaining the No. 1 job from Brian Griese.

Grossman passed for 913 yards with 3 touchdowns, 1 interception and an 80.2 passer rating in his second stint, a vast improvement after throwing for 500 yards with 1 TD, 6 interceptions and a 45.2 rating in the first three games.

Re: Bears Sign Rex Grossman to One-Year Deal

Well, try to look on the bright side. At least it's only a one-year deal.

Re: Bears Sign Rex Grossman to One-Year Deal

This move tells me that the Bears will not be taking a QB in the draft. I look for them to go with Kyle, Rex and Brian. This also means that Berrian will go else where to play. unless, the Bears throw some unreal amount of money at him.

I always said that if the Bears re-signed Grossman it would be a short deal (2year). If he doesn't win the job, or if he doesn't keep it through out the season, the 08 - 09 season will be his last with the Bears. If I were Grossman I would have taken my chances in the FA market. Or maybe his agent told him the Bears deal is the best deal you are going to get.

Last night I watched WGN sports and Rich King said said that it looks like the Bears will release Griese and take a QB in the draft. If the Bears take a QB in the draft they can not be wrong on this again, but just maybe Orton can be the guy. I feel he's going to give Grossman a run for his money. I just don't know if that's saying a whole lot.

Ya I read some where Griese won't be a Bear next year. I would love to see the Bears take Delaware QB John Flaco in Round 2.
