| Nickerson Resigns as Linebackers Coach LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears on Tuesday announced that linebackers coach Hardy Nickerson has resigned after one season on Lovie Smith’s staff. Nickerson played 16 NFL seasons as a linebacker with the Steelers, Buccaneers, Jaguars and Packers from 1987-2002, and made the Pro Bowl all four seasons Smith was his position coach with Tampa Bay from 1996-99. Nickerson’s first taste of coaching at the NFL level came in 2004 when he worked with the Bears in training camp. He then joined Smith’s staff last February after spending the previous season in the radio booth as a color analyst for the Buccaneers. Bears linebackers thrived under Nickerson in 2007. Lance Briggs was selected to his third straight Pro Bowl, while Brian Urlacher led the team with 158 tackles and a career-high five interceptions while also registering five sacks and two fumble recoveries.
