I could see your point if Grossman missed time because of turf toe, sore finger, or a hamstring. He went out with season ending injuries. Also the Bears just got over Cade McNown being a bust. I don't think any other team would have cut Grossman under those circumstances.
Think about it. How mad would you be as a fan with your team drafting a QB #1 in 1999 and in 3 years he's gone. Then your team drafts a QB in the 1st round in 2003. You are going to cut him in 2005 (2years into a 5 year deal) because he got hurt? If his injuries were going to end his career that's one thing, but it wasn't the case with Grossman. At times he led the team and other times he didn't. He played well at the end of the 2005 season and gave a since of hope just coming up short against Seattle in the playoff game. You are not going to cut him after that. He came out looking like an MVP in 2006 and got to the big game but something happend along the way. A lot of INT's and missed snaps and fumbles. How I see it now is that Grossman is to short to be a pocket passer in the NFL. I think he has trouble seeing down field if he doesn't have good throwing lanes. A lot of timing routes with Grossman, and that lets other teams defenses jump his passing routes. If Grossman was a moble QB we might not even be talking about this.
I thought this would be Grossmans year to come back and shut everyone up. But, it looks like I was wrong. It looks like he's going to be a #2 QB, or a QB that is going start for a year to bridge the spot for a year.
With this latest injury to Grossman it's the Bears that are in the drivers seat. I think if anything you offer him a 2 year deal. You cut Griese. You give Orton a 2 year deal, and you pick up a FA QB. If there is one out there. If not a FA QB, then the Bears have to draft a QB if not in this up coming draft, the following one forsure.
