| Blame the defense, not Rexy SEATTLE -- If you're looking to criticize Rex Grossman -- and hasn't criticizing Grossman become a fun civic pastime? -- about the only thing you can say is he played too well in the first half Sunday. He apparently played so well early that the Bears abandoned the run after intermission and relied too heavily on their passing game. How's that for a reach? The fact is, Grossman played well enough to win and so did the rest of the Bears' offense. It was the defense's failure to stop Seattle that led to a 30-23 loss at Qwest Field. Grossman led a couple of touchdown drives in the first half and didn't throw an interception while posting an 86.1 passer rating in his first game back as the starter since losing his job because of multiple turnovers after Week 3. Grossman committed a costly turnover with 5:43 left when Seahawks defensive end Patrick Kerney slapped the ball out of his hands from behind while chasing him out of the pocket. Darryl Tapp recovered at the Seattle 47 and four plays later, the Seahawks took a 10-point lead that put the game out of reach. ''That was the game, as it turns out,'' Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said. Mulligan: Blame bad D, not Rex

| Re: Blame the defense, not Rexy I agree. The Bears at one time went for it on 4th and 1 and couldn't pick up the first down when they were in FG range. Grossman has got too know better than to be running around with the ball like that. He was just asking for that strip. The D took a big hit with injuries this season but more than that, it's been Babich's play calling. I watched the 1st half and it was nice to see the Bears bring the corner blitz when AA got a sack. When they brought pressure they were getting to Hasselbeck. The one time they got Hasselbeck it looked like the 46D of old, everybody came after him. The secondary is just bad Vasher and M. Brown have been missed. |

| Re: Blame the defense, not Rexy That's a good point, and it just might be the reason to. |

| Re: Blame the defense, not Rexy Since you are talking defense, or lack of defense, what happened to Mark Anderson? I thought he would have about 50 sacks so far this season. Last year it seamed that he got a sack on every play they brought him out on. It was predictable, but he still got the sack. |
